Register within 21 days if you still can
The person responsible — usually the hospital, or the head of the house for a home birth — is expected to report the birth within 21 days. After that window the registrar can still register the birth, but the rules add verification. A birth that was never entered, even from many years ago, is a delayed-registration file, not a printout of an old school diary.
Surat city births
Births inside the municipal limits are registered with the Surat Municipal Corporation. Keep the hospital discharge summary. The child’s name, the parents’ names, and the date on that paper are what the certificate will be checked against. If the parents’ names must match a marriage certificate, bring that too.
Corrections
A wrong letter in the name is a correction. A completely new name chosen years later may need a gazette as well as the registrar’s process. Once the certificate is right, use the same spelling on Aadhaar and, if the child is being added at home, on the ration card.
